Great post Mister Bunny...

Living in a small town, I often hear of people falling for these types of scams. Chances of easy money seems to cloud the judgment of many.

The latest one seems to be the old "mystery shopper" for Wal-Mart. Have personally seen one person taken for over $200 on this one last month.

Thanks for sharing,

Great advice, thank you.

Perhaps I can just add to this that the best way I know to guard against being ripped off by online sales or auctions of any kind, Craigslist and eBay included—and whether seller or buyer—is to use a *bona fide* online escrow company. Especially for pricier items like antiques, jewelry and autos. Although it does add some cost, it takes the uncertainty out of the transaction, and that’s a small price to pay for peace of mind.

For my money, the best bona fide online escrow (and there seems to be ten fraudulent escrow sites for every bona fide one) is probably *****.com (http://******.com). In fact, it’s the only one that eBay recommends, and is the only online escrow company that is licensed to provide escrow services all across the United States.

Take care,

Terry,
If you don't have the time to create a products blog like 37signals, outsource it. If funds are the issue, joint venture with someone once you've got the biz model in place where it makes sense to have the site in the first place.
Best wishes,
-Mike

Thank you for sharing the info Mike. I really like sites like the "37 signals" that provide quality information that one can actually use.

I need to find the time to create a site like it.

Another area you may want to disclose would be if you are offering a discounted membership to one part of a membership website based on membership in another part of the membership website, what are the consequences of letting either part go. This may seem to be obvious, but if someone has been a member of both for a while and for whatever reason decides only one is required, this may be something that they have forgotten over time and receiving a bill for an additional amount for the part retained can cause a loss of faith and the loss of a member. Perhaps simply adding a statement such as 'Discounted price based on membership in XYZ' to the monthly billing statement for the discounted portion of the membership would suffice.
